Bio
Whitney Trilling was raised in Nebraska and always had an adventurous, curious streak. She received her BA from Wayne (NE) State College and an MA from the University of Northern Colorado.
She thrived in creative processes, most notably as a choreographer and teacher of choreography in musical theater. Assignments include Frostburg State College (MD), the American Theater Association’s National Conferences, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College (NC), Tufts University (MA), and Yale University’s Dramat (CT).
From New York City, she also produced and directed national touring companies of “Swing Dance, America!” and “Broadway Dancin’!” She was the associate director of Gary Lindsey Artist Services, a national performing arts booking agency representing companies, including Martha Graham Dance Company, St. Petersburg Russian Ballet, and Bale’ Folclorico da Bahia.
Her dream job in New York was as General Manager for The American Dance Machine, an organization that reconstructed original Broadway choreography. Here, she got to hobnob with dancers, performers, and distinguished choreographers, including Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Agnes de Mille, and Gower Champion. Part of the companies’ business was to archive many outstanding dance numbers at the Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts.
More perks of this job were that the company performed throughout the US, Japan, and Europe, feeding Whitney’s love of travel and curiosity about other cultures.
Taking a side-step off her career track in dance, Whitney worked as production manager/unit coordinator for Fox TVs’ “A Current Affair” and as editorial and staff manager for Paramount TV’s “Hard Copy.” While both shows presented stories about normal people who get caught up in abnormal circumstances, she never thought that one day she might be the one going from normal (sighted) to abnormal (blind).
Accidentally blinded by the side-effect of a prescription drug, Whitney attended the Braille Institute in LA and served as President of the Board of Directors of Empower Tech, a technology school for blind and low-vision.
Whitney is single and lives in New York City.
